Landscape lawn fields
Coastal Spirit are pleased to announce that the club has secured the permanent use of a junior 5 a side pitch to be installed at Cuthbert’s Green. This is the same pitch that is currently based as a gap filler in the CBD. This is a major coup for the club and thanks go out to the board and Rebuild Christchurch Trust who facilitated the gifting of the field.
This field will be available to the club for practices, small sided games and a friendy kickabout. It is great that the East side of Christchurch will be able to have access to a leisure activity; hopefully it is the first of many.
The transfer and installation of this pitch is going to be a huge ask for the club. It will take a great deal of work and club member assistance so please keep an eye out for our working bee. It will be well worth it!
In a letter to the editor of The Journal News, Dr. Philip Landrigan reminds us that artifical turf fields pose risks to our children's health and safety. Here is his letter:
"There are several hundred landscape lawn fields on the East Coast. Towns and school districts installed them to improve the quality of playing fields and accommodate sports programs. However, they were pursued without analysis of potential negative consequences.
